The Talking Information Center (TIC) is celebrating 46 years of providing reading services for the blind, low vision, and print impaired communities. With the help of over 200 volunteers, TIC broadcasts over 320 publications over our radio station each week so those who are blind, low vision or print impaired have access to the printed word. TIC provides a necessary service that allows our listeners to live informed and autonomous lives -- providing access to the same information that sighted individuals enjoy.

TIC's programming also combats isolation by providing human-voiced broadcasts of publications. Isolation has been classified as one of the largest health risks in the world, especially for seniors over the age of 65. The need for our programming became even more evident during the COVID-19 pandemic as we saw our listenership triple because listeners looked for a way to combat loneliness.

Thank you for supporting the Talking Information Center so we can continue to provide this vital service for another 46 years!

Hosted by 95.9 WATD FM's Rob Hakala!

TIC is excited to have the one and only Rob Hakala from The "South Shore's Morning News" at 95.9 WATD - FM!

We are so grateful to Rob for hosting our big night and for supporting our mission! Rob has had a passion for radio ever since he received his first radio and microphone at the age of 12.

Not long after that, he was "broadcasting" to family and friends on his pretend radio station. Although Rob enjoyed this, it soon became awkward at family functions.

Years later, he wound up broadcasting for "real" at Curry College's 91.5 WMLN-FM in Milton. In 1996, Rob graduated magna cum laude from Curry with a degree in Communications. Soon after, he ended up at 95.9 WATD for his first stint as news reporter and afternoon anchor.

Rob left 95.9 WATD to work full-time for Shadow Traffic in Boston, but the South Shore called him back. He returned to 95.9 WATD in November of 2000 to host a new program called "The South Shore's Morning News." Rob was later promoted to Program Director and now oversees the entire sound of WATD Radio.
